｜Call for Papers/ Topics

1. Climate change and Net-zero transformation: sustainable development, green finance, energy transition, just transition, agriculture and rural revitalization, circular economy, environment governance, climate justice and fairness, carbon credit related (carbon trading, carbon sinks, carbon pricing, international carbon tariffs, advanced technologies), etc.

2. Feature on transformation of Kaohsiung: opportunities and challenges brought by the transformation of heavily industrialized city  (employment and change of occupation for labors, transformation of industry and city space, transformation of governance, social welfare), renewable energy development, North-South disparity and regional balance, smart city, city crisis and response (social problems, environmental problems, local politics, system change), etc.

3. Cross-disciplinary topics for sustainability: various kinds of economies, societal and environmental governance related integrated research for sustainability, especially for local problems in Taiwan, combine science, engineer technologies, and humanities and social sciences,Global Governance, International Development and Cooperation: Geopolitics and international development, international cooperation and development assistance, international political economy, social and regional development, cross-border regional economic integration, democratic politics and institutional innovation, disaster and risk governance.

4. Global governance, international development and collaboration: geopolitical and international development, international collaboration and development support, international political economy, social and regional development, cross-disciplinary regional economy integration, democratic politics and system innovation, disaster and risk governance.

5. University Social Responsibility (USR): social practices and humanistic innovation of university, interaction between university and communities or local government, cooperation of public and private sectors, reflection and suggestions of USR, etc.

6. Spatial planning and development: national land-use planning, land justice, social housing, urban and regional research, system change and spatial transformation, decision-making models and crisis management, policy communication and innovation, etc.

7. Culture, economy and local development: social innovation, local revitalization, cultural and creative industries, cultural assets and space revitalization, local tourism and recreation planning, religion and development, ethnicity issues, indigenous people studies, etc.

8. Social innovation and health welfare: health care, education policy, community construction, aged society, human rights, poverty, sex, social welfare, generation justice, etc.

9. Self-organized topics in other development studies.

｜Submission and Review Processes

a. Submission deadline of abstract - 2024/06/30

This call for papers event adopts an online submission and review process. Contributors are requested to fill out basic information and submit the paper abstracts via email to: tads2024.tw@gmail.com before the deadline. Please include “Submission for the 16th Annual Conference on Development Studies – [Your Name]” in the subject line. The conference organizing committee will send out a confirmation notice within three days after receiving the abstract. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact us by phone or email to ensure your submission was not missed.

b. Notification of acceptance – 2024/07/10The list of accepted submissions and abstract review results will be announced by July 10th. Authors whose submissions are accepted must pay the conference registration fee in order to present. The registration fee for the 16th Annual Conference on Development Studies in 2024 is 500 NTD for faculty teachers and the general public, and 100 NTD for students. Those who have already paid the annual membership fee or are lifetime members are exempt from the registration fee. Detailed information regarding the payment of registration and membership fees will be provided along with the abstract acceptance notice.

c. Submission of complete papers – 2024/10/07

Accepted candidates must submit the full paper along with both Chinese and English abstracts (both are required) by the specified deadline. Please send the documents as Word and PDF attachments to tads2024.tw@gmail.com to facilitate processing.

d. Best Paper Award – 2024/09/30

The Best Paper Award will be granted to three to five outstanding papers each from doctoral and master's students, with recipients receiving a certificate and a cash prize. Authors who wish to be considered for the award should indicate this by checking the appropriate box in the submission form. In addition, participants applying for the award must submit their full paper to the conference email by September 30th, 2024. Failure to meet this deadline will result in disqualification from the award evaluation.
