On December 19th, 2023, the Digital Financial Trade and Data Protection Association collaborated with the Center for Carbon Research and Solution (CCRS) of National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) and the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange (TCX), successfully held "the 2nd Digital Human Rights Seminar" at the Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance. The theme of the seminar was “Building a Digitally Sustainable Hyper-Future”, bringing together top experts from academia, government, and industry to jointly explore human rights issues in the digital era.

The event began with an opening speech by Sang Ju Yu, Chairman of the Digital Financial Trade and Data Protection Association. The opening featured guest speeches delivered by Chun-Yi Lee, Secretary General of the Control Yuan, Huai-Jen Lee, Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs, and Sherman Lin, Chairman of Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange (TCX). The seminar also invited featured guest for panel discussions, including Brenda Hu, Director-General in Department of Planning at Financial Supervisory Commission, Meng-Shiang Lin, Board Member of the Consumers' Foundation and Convener of Financial Supervisory Commission, Hung-Jeng Tsai, Director of the CCRS of NSYSU, Eva Huang, Chairman of Taiwan Carbon Development Association, and Wei-Chen Ko, Deputy General Manager of Chunghwa Telecom Enterprise Business Group. During the seminar, Chairman Sang Ju Yu and Vice Chairman Chung Ho Weng took the lead to hold in-depth discussions on popular topics such as digital identity privacy and security, carbon rights, and ESG.

A highlight worth mentioning is that during the first featured speech, Associate Professor Shih-wei Liao from the Department of Computer Science & Information Engineering at National Taiwan University, shared his unique insights on digital identity privacy and security. With 22 years of experience working in Silicon Valley, Associate Professor Liao introduced the Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) framework based on zero-knowledge architecture, emphasizing the importance of enhancing personal privacy and security while reducing the risks associated with centralized identity verification.

In addition to discussions on the technical perspective, the seminar also focused on the policies related to carbon credit trading and climate change. Je-Liang Liou, Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Research at the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, offered profound insights on this issue.

This seminar was more than a platform for insight exchange of academic and policy perspectives, it was also an important milestone in public–private sector collaboration toward safeguarding human rights and promoting sustainable development in the digital era. Through the in-depth discussions and interaction during the event, participants gained a more comprehensive understanding of the new challenges and opportunities in the digital era, marking a solid step forward for Taiwan on the path toward global digital transformation.
