To accelerate corporations’ action in carbon reduction while driving growth in green development, the Ministry of Environment invited 17 enterprises that are either major greenhouse gas emitters set to submit voluntary reduction plans, or participants in the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), along with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, National Science and Technology Council, Financial Supervisory Commission, and the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange, to jointly form the "Green Growth Alliance" that pilot the design of Taiwan’s Emissions Trading System (TW-ETS) under the early stage cap-and-trade scheme. By refining the ETS design, the effort aims to utilize market mechanisms to decrease the cost for carbon reduction, provide price signals for the development of decarbonization technologies, and create incentives for enterprises to engage in carbon reduction efforts and the carbon market, thereby advancing Taiwan’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.

This seminar has invited representatives from various types of enterprises in Taiwan, to discuss how to strengthen market mechanisms in carbon pricing. The seminar aims to help the industries understand the government’s current design concepts of the carbon pricing system; at the same time, assist the government to understand corporate expectations of the system and the potential challenges after the implementation, ultimately fostering a win-win outcome for both carbon reduction and economic development.
